Prue’s Decorating Tip
A common question from customers looking for new cushions is where do I start?
Best starting point is a key item in your room such as a piece of furniture, an accessory (e.g. a lamp), fabric (e.g. curtains), wallpaper or your artwork. From these pull one or more colours you like as your starting point. I personally like to have at least two colours. At least one dark shade and one light shade for contrast and depth. Then add another colour for accent. Your colour choices will depend if you want the room to be bright or subtle.
Don’t be scared of patterns either. Look at how much pattern and movement is already in your room. Not much? Mix two or more patterns together. It creates a great focal point. Pattern already exists? Perhaps only one pattern and one or two solid cushions.
Remember you can buy the cushions and see what they look like at home. If you don’t like them, take them back. Just check with the store before you buy to make sure they accept returns and how long you have.
